MECHANICAL REFURBISHMENTS
In 2003, the car was brought back to the United States a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration was undertaken. The car was stripped down and completely repainted. All components were refinished to new condition. The suspension was crack checked and completely rebuilt. The V8 Ford engine was rebuilt by Ryan Falconer to the tune of about 500hp. The transmission, and rear end were rebuilt back to period correct specification.
EVENTS
Once restored, the car was track tested and fully sorted by Canepa. The car currently is in perfect period correct specification and comes with a Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA) Logbook.
Official Shelby documentation indicates that this car was shipped to Gregory Ford in Australia on April 11, 1967. The Mustang became part of the Castrol team driven by Cusack and Niel Allen, and competed in Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, and New South Wales with great success. Cusack drove the car for the 1967 season including an appearance at the 1967 Australian Touring Car Championship. Allen would acquire the car in late 1967 and go on to score the car's most notable victory at Warwick Farm beating reigning national champion Ian Pete Geoghegan in February of 1968.
